Uses For Avandia
Information for the Use of Avandia
Avandia is used to help control type II diabetes mellitus. Also known as rosiglitazone, it is activated by the presence of naturally secreted insulin in the body and works to improve the body's response to that natural insulin. Therefore, Avandia is not recommended for patients who have type I diabetes and are insulin dependent. Avandia is meant to be prescribed as part of a therapy plan involving diet, exercise, weight loss and, if applicable, cessation of smoking. It should not be regarding as a stand alone therapy to improve the condition of those with type II diabetes. Avandia may also be prescribed along with Meltformin - another drug used to control blood sugar levels in type II diabetes patients.

Your doctor may have prescribed Avandia for reasons other than type II diabetes mellitus. GlaxoSmithKline does not list other uses for Avandia on its website. If you are taking Avandia as prescribed by a doctor and do not have type II diabetes, please discuss this with your doctor and find out why your doctor feels that Avandia is a good solution for you.
