Pancreas
A glandular organ that is located behind the stomach. It produces insulin and a variety of digestive enzymes. It is about the size of a hand.
Polyuria
A symptom of diabetes in which excessive amounts of urine are produced.
Postprandial Blood Glucose
The levels of blood glucose after a meal.
Proinsulin
The precursor from which insulin is made.
Protein
One of the three kinds of nutrients found in food. Primarily found in meat, poultry, fish, cheese, milk, dairy products, eggs, and dried beans. Proteins are used in the body for cell structure, hormone production, and other functions.
Proteinuria
Occurs when protein is present in the urine. This indicates that the kidneys are not working properly.
Prescription
A physician's order for the preparation and administration of a drug for a patient.
Pharmacy
A place where prescription drugs, like Avandia, are sold. Pharmacies are, by law, supervised by a licensed pharmacist.
