Diabetes Mellitus

A diabetic condition in which glycemic control breaks down and the blood glucose levels rise.

Diabetes Ketoacidosis
-
A very dangerous condition in which extremely high blood glucose levels, along with a lack of insulin, leads to the breakdown of body fat for energy and an accumulation of ketones in the blood and urine. Symptoms include nausea and vomiting, stomach pain, breath odor, and rapid breathing. If the condition is left untreated it can lead to coma and death.

A term generally used to refer to diabetes mellitus, though it can also refer to diabetes insipidus. Both conditions are characterized by excessive urination.
