Avandia is a prominent and common medicine prescribed for use with Type 2 Diabetes. There are over 20 million Americans currently living with the disease diabetes, and according to the American Diabetes Association there are at least six million more with the disease who remain undiagnosed. Due to these large and ever growing numbers, pharmaceutical companies have worked at a frenzied pace to develop and market diabetes medication to aid in the treatment of increasing prevalence of this disease. Avandia diabetes medication, also known as Rosiglitazone Maleate is one such drug developed by the drug company GlaxoSmithKlein.

Medical Study Leads to FDA Avandia Warning

Although the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has a long and documented history of possbile Avandia side effects it was not until recently that the grave and serious nature of these side effects became glaringly important. With the publication of a study linking Avandia to a 43 percent increased risk of heart attack when compared with patients who took other diabetes medication or no medication at all, it became apparent that the public and the FDA needed more Rosiglitazone Maleate information. Doctors and patients both embraced this treatment option without being fully appraised of the possible risks, especially considering the fact that two thirds of Type 2 diabetes patients die of heart-related conditions, which begs the question of whether patients should consider the option of possible Avandia litigation.

Will We See an Avandia Recall?

The suddenness of the recent new Avandia information has led many patients to consider whether the FDA should take action toward and Avandia recall. The FDA has taken no such action in issuing its Avandia warning, but the serious possible ramifications of the Avandia warning should lead anyone taking the drug, especially those with heart disease or other cardiac related conditions, to seriously consider alternate treatment options. In addition, anyone who believes they or a loved one may have been affected by the increased risk of heart attack caused by Avandia should consider contacting an Avandia attorney to get more information and advice from an experienced Avandia law firm.
